In imagining the number of futures available to the Shishmaref, I can't help but imagine numerous futures for myself. Usually, I'm good at making a decision and sticking to it [I want the "fish" charm for my bracelet... set and decided, no question... I will design something with marine life, done. my site is in Alaska, check], making quick little decisions like that come easy after being in a design major for this long. I guess I kind of just realize that whatever I don't "get to" in this particular project can always show up somewhere else and that my ideas will always ceaselessly revolve around a relatively limited set of criteria/ obsessions. This aside, I am also constantly shifting focus and I am inspired by almost anything. During Blindfield studio I was certain I would work for an acoustics firm and design spaces for musicians. I could have worked for a couple places I spoke with back then, and I'm sure it would be fun, exciting work. Then, during DD I was exposed to a long-time love of mine, SHoP Architects, they are like my high school crush [in the architecture world], just too cool for me in every way. Andd they were working with JayZ at the time we visited... whatt a dream - a musicians none-the-less! Andd then there was DBell's studio that kind of led the way to me gaining what little architect's ego I now have... I think a good thing that it finally came before Thesis. He really gave me the confidence to design in the way I see fit - clean lines, a focus on section and elevation, and breathable layouts, "slow" architecture if you will [tip of the hat to Todd Williams and Billie Tsein - I think you are my architectural god parents...].
Anyways, what could these evolving and coalescing patterns mean for my future life? There are a few things I've come up with that I think would be great... but who really knows?
1. work for Kate Orff at Scape down in NYC, learn from her all the awesome rendering techniques and ecological knowledge. then go back for my Masters of Landscape Architecture at Harvard or Columbia [U. Louisiana State is also a contender]
2. work for Todd Williams and Billie Tsein [probably for many, many years]. go back to school? or move-up with them?
3. work in California?
4. enter competitions with Sean for Spring semester into summertime [work at RPI again?]. take GRE's and go to grad school after...
These are my best thoughts for now.
